About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Union Berlin secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Bayer 04 Leverkusen in a tightly contested Bundesliga match on Saturday. The solitary goal came from Rani Khedira (GAP +0.8%) in the 28th minute, which proved to be decisive in a game where both teams struggled to create clear-cut chances. Union Berlin, playing at home, managed to hold off a Bayer Leverkusen side that was expected to pose a significant threat. Pre-match expectations had Leverkusen as slight favorites, given their higher league standing and recent form. However, Union Berlin's disciplined performance, particularly in defense, allowed them to claim all three points. The match's key moment arrived just before the half-hour mark when Khedira found the back of the net, capitalizing on a rare defensive lapse from Leverkusen. Despite Leverkusen's efforts to respond, they were unable to break down Union Berlin's resolute defense, with Frederik Rønnow (GAP +1.3%) making crucial saves to maintain the clean sheet. In terms of tactical adjustments, Union Berlin made four substitutions, bringing on Christopher Trimmel, Alex Král, Tim Skarke, and Ilyas Ansah. These changes were part of a strategic rotation by the home team manager to maintain energy levels and defensive solidity. Bayer Leverkusen also made five substitutions, introducing Jonas Hofmann, Martin Terrier, Lucas Vazquez, Ernest Poku, and Patrik Schick, as they sought to inject fresh attacking impetus into their lineup. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) data highlights Alex Grimaldo (GAP +5.5%) and Edmond Tapsoba (GAP +4.9%) as standout performers for Leverkusen, despite the team's inability to score. Their contributions were significant in maintaining possession and attempting to build attacks from the back. This victory is a significant boost for Union Berlin, who have been striving to climb the Bundesliga table. The win helps them gain momentum as they look to improve their league position. For Bayer Leverkusen, the defeat is a setback in their pursuit of a top-four finish, and they will need to regroup quickly to stay in contention. Overall, Union Berlin's tactical discipline and Khedira's decisive goal were the key factors in this hard-fought victory.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
